Abstract

This talk will address three topics related to the design of high-speed continuous-time bandpass ADCs. The first is a simple circuit trick for realizing a high-Q resonator with an active-RC circuit. The second is a cute model of nonlinear behavior in a current-steering DAC. The third and last topic is a more academic discussion of the theoretical trade-offs between dynamic range, bandwidth and power in an ADC. Each discussion offers insight into the theoretical and practical limitations of continuous-time bandpass ADCs.

Biography

Richard Schreier is a UofT lifer, having done his Bachelor's (Eng Sci 8T3), Master's and Ph.D. degrees at UofT. After leaving UofT, Richard joined Oregon State University to play the prof game for 6 years. He came to his senses in 1997 and joined the High Speed Converters group of Analog Devices in Boston, where he works on (surprise) High Speed Converters. Dr. Schreier received the 2002 ISSCC Best Paper award for a paper describing a low-power bandpass delta-sigma ADC.
