Current Affiliations and Activities

Andrew Ling is currently a doctorate student at the University of Toronto. He is actively involved with the ECE graduate student body and is the current President of the ECE Graduate Student Society where he organized and MC'd various events including a graduate seminar series, social BBQ, and several social mixers. Andrew is also the publications chair for the ECE computer group and has hosted several cider seminars. Furthermore, Andrew has helped out during orientation week where he has given welcome speeches to new graduates entering the ECE computer group.

One of Andrew's larger roles this year is symposium chair for Connections. As symposium chair, Andrew is responsible for directing the organization of the entire symposium. Connections is an industrial conference held at the University of Toronto. The goal of connections is to create a better relationship between industry and acadamia. Last year was a huge success where more than 200 attendies showed up for the event.

Outside of graduate school, Andrew enjoys staying active. He likes work out at the Hart House and Athletic Centre where he swims and lifts weights. Andrew also enjoys martial arts. He has experience in Aikido, Jeet Kun Do, Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Karate. Andrew also enjoys Dragon Boating during the summer months. He has also been part of the University of Toronto ultimate frisbee team.

Previous Affiliations and Activities

Andrew has always been an active member of the community. He is a volunteer for the Let's Talk Science Program, which brings awareness of science in engineering to children. While living in Edmonton he has volunteered for several charitable organizations including the Canadian Bloor Donor Clinic, the Edmonton Space and Sciences Centre, and the Food Bank. Andrew has some musical talent and has previously played the violin and piano. He has played several roles during his undergraduate years including being the Vice-Chair of the IEEE student branch and an Orientation leader.
