Lab Security

Over the past few years, there have been several thefts from Electrical and Computer Engineering offices, including some wallets, books, periodicals, and expensive equipment. The latest rash of thefts saw a computer, TV, walkman, electronic calendar, CDs, and some memory chips go missing. Therefore, we have a couple of rules that should be followed at all times. First, the office doors should stay closed and locked. The second rule is that people you do not know should not be let into the office unescorted. If a person comes to the door to see someone in the room, go with the visitor to the student's desk. If in doubt, ask for some identification. Finally, never give out security passcodes. Doing so undermines any security that a lab may have and is usually the main source for thefts in ECE.
