Each lab may have several extensions; answer one if you're close by. It'll usually be for someone else, but other people will do the same for you. You'll find the maps handy in helping to find the student being called. You can also just bellow out the name loudly. There's usually a pen and paper near the phones so you can take messages, but it's often better to use electronic mail. If you insist on using paper messages, please include the date, time and your name, and leave it on an easily visible spot at the person's desk, like on the chair or propped up on the terminal screen.
