BALLISTIC Analog Layout Language and Extended GDT Software (beta+ version) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instructions for using ftp and starting the software installation. You may use these instructions for copying the analog layout language software and/or the postscript documentation for the analog layout language - follow the steps below accordingly (steps "a" refer to the former, "b" to the latter). If you are copying the layout software please note that once the ftp is complete you will be required to install the software. Once installation is complete you will require a special key file to run the software. The key can be obtained by emailing your name, the full name and address of your institution, and your computing platform type to gdt@eecg.toronto.edu Note: "unix>" implies that a command is to be entered at the unix prompt, while "ftp>" represents the prompt for the ftp program ... 1. connect to the ftp server at the University of Toronto: unix> ftp ftp.eecg.toronto.edu 2. use the "anonymous" login name, not your own login: Name (ftp.eecg.toronto.edu:yourname): anonymous 3. enter your full email address as identification: Password: yourname@youraddress 4. set the file transfer type to binary: ftp> bin 5. change into the public gdt layout software directory: ftp> cd /pub/software/layout 6a. either get the readme, install, and tar/Z files if you would like the entire software package (this includes the reference document): ftp> get ftp.readme ftp> get ftp.install ftp> get ftp.tar.Z 6b. or, get only the readme/reference documents and not the software: ftp> get ftp.readme ftp> get ftp.reference 7. type quit to leave the ftp program: ftp> quit 8. read the readme file: unix> cat ftp.readme 9a. either move the install and tar/Z file to a temporary directory to which you have write permission, then run the install script to setup the code: unix> mv ftp.* ~/mytmpdir unix> cd ~/mytmpdir unix> chmod ugo+rx ftp.install unix> ftp.install 9b. or, if you have the reference postscript document you may print it (it is approximately 120 pages including several bitmaps): unix> lpr ftp.reference 10a. if you have installed the layout software please send your full name, the name and address of your institution, and your computing platform type (such as "sparc" or "sun4") to gdt@eecg.toronto.edu to obtain your key file (the key file enables us to send you updates and provide you with assistance in the event that problems arise) Please send email to gdt@eecg.toronto.edu if you have any questions or problems with ftp or the installation - suggestions are more than welcome!
