You will need the following:

  * [[http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/~moshovos/ACA08/files/simplesim-aca.tar.bz|SimpleScalar Simulator Source Code]].
  * You may either attempt this on a x86 Linux machine or install [[http://www.cygwin.com|CYGWIN]] under windows.
  * [[http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/~moshovos/ACA08/files/ss-gcc.usrlocal.tar.bz|PISA GCC port]] which installs under /usr/local/bin. PISA is the MIPS-like instruction set that SimpleScalar simulates.
  * [[http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/~moshovos/ACA08/files/MIPSISA.pdf|MIPS ISA reference]]. SimpleScalar implements a modified version of the MIPS ISA, however, the differences are in the way instructions are encoded.
  * Finally, [[http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/~moshovos/ACA08/files/simplescalar.pdf|here's a report that describes what SimpleScalar is]].

Note that .tar.bz files are .tar files compressed with bzip2.
Also note that while compiling you may have to make changes to the source files to compensate for changes in the header file structure of Linux/CYGWIN. Figuring out such changes is part of the assignment.
