Lebanon
-
Lebanon is a small country (area = 10,452 square
kilometers) on the eastern
shore of the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, the country is so small, tourist
brochures from the 1960's claim that you could enjoy skiing in the morning
and swimming in the afternoon! Although I haven't been able to verify this
myself, I can claim, with confidence, that you can cover a huge part of the
country on a day trip! :-)

Just like the maple leaf is the symbol of Canada, the
cedar tree is the symbol
of Lebanon.

The Lebanese flag is also similar to the Canadian flag.
Instead of the vertical red, white, red with a maple leaf in the middle, the
Lebanese flag is a horizontal red, white, red, with a green cedar tree in the
middle. With so many similarities between Lebanon and Canada, is it any wonder
so many Lebanese have immigrated to Canada?! :-)

A favourite poem of mine, written by the Lebanese poet Gibran Khalil Gibran,
is Pity the Nation.
