| Talk Title: | Error and Erasure Correction Techniques for Random Network Coding |
| Slides: | 1-2.ppt |
| Abstract: | Random network coding is a promising technique to improve both the throughput and the scalability of communication networks. Instead of the traditional routing of packets to their destinations, nodes are allowed to create outgoing packets by mixing together incoming packets using arithmetic operations. This technique, however, can be very susceptible to jamming attacks. For instance, if one of the nodes is a jammer who starts transmitting incorrect packets, it is possible that, after mixing, all packets received by a destination node are also incorrect. In this work, we propose error correction techniques that can successfully protect the system against such jamming attacks, up to a prescribed error correction capability that depends only on the bandwidth of the jammer. An advantage of our solution is that it also allows for erasure correction, that is, the ability to recover missing packets that have been lost, for example, due to network congestion. |
