Talk Title: Visual Attention as a Mechanism for the Computational Perception of Motion
Slides: 7-5.pdf
Abstract: Motion analysis and associated scene interpretation in visual sequences is an intractable problem. Traditional computational models make rigid assumptions about an imaged scene to reduce this problem to a tractable one. However, these underlying assumptions also limit the robustness of vision systems when deployed in real world environments. Unlike these systems, biological vision is phenomenally successful at performing the same sort of tasks in a highly robust manner. Studies in neurobiology have demonstrated that the biological vision makes use of attention as a bottom-up and top-down mechanism for limiting search in visual scene interpretation. This research attempts to incorporate motion cues within a biologically plausible computational framework of visual attention as a basis for recognition and interpretation of the motion of independantly moving objects.
