The Xilinx XUP Virtex II Pro Development Board
Documentation for this board is more readily available elsewhere.
Go directly to the
XUP web site
for the board.
There is also information, including reference designs, at the site
for the manufacturer,
Digilent Inc..
Most computers no longer have a standard serial port connector.
The kit you receive will include a USB to serial cable and you may
need to install a driver for it.
You can find the driver
here.
It is an older version than the driver you will find
at the
Prolific
website.
Prolific is the chipset manufacturer.
From what we have seen, the new driver does not work for the somewhat
older cables that we have.
On Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 (32-bit) login as an
administrator, and run the setup file in compatibility
mode with Windows XP. After installation completes, plug in the USB
cable and your computer should detect and install it to a COM Port.
Our boards come with two types of memory DIMMs.
The default used by the Base System Builder (BSB) is for the 256 MB
DIMMs.
If you have a 512 MB DIMM board, you will see memory read errors because
the timing parameters for the MPMC memory controller are not correct.
Get the instructions to fix this problem
here.
A big thanks to David Woods for figuring this out.
